Black tea is one of the most consumed beverages in the world besides water. It comes from the Camellia sinensis plant. It’s stronger in flavor and contains more caffeine than other teas, but less caffeine than coffee. As black tea contains antioxidants and compounds that can help reduce inflammation in the body, it also offers a variety of health benefits.
Black Tea is believed to contain the following health benefits:
- Antioxidants: (polyphenols, catechins, theaflavins and thearubigins) can help remove free radicals and decrease cell damage in the body
- May Boost Heart Health and reduce the risk of stroke: another group of antioxidants called flavonoids, is believed to provide benefits to heart health.
- May lower bad (LDL) Cholesterol: some studies have found that consuming tea may help reduce LDL cholesterol.
- May improve Gut Health: the polyphenols found in black tea may help maintain a healthy gut by promoting the growth of good bacteria.
- May lower blood sugar levels Black tea is a great non-sweetened beverage that has been found to help enhance the use of insulin in the body. This is further improved by adding some Ceylon cinnamon to the tea.
